Higher Education Statistics
Service Objectives

The purpose of the higher education statistics survey is to make quality statistical data for schools, students, and teachers of higher education institutions by conducting a census, and to provide basic statistical information for policy-makers and researchers.

The survey's results are also used to evaluate current domestic educational policies and to assess the operation of higher education institutions.

1962: 'Yearbook of education statistics' published.

1963: State-approved as National Statistics.

Until 1990: 'Yearbook of education statistics'(Ministry of Education) published. (Ministry of Education, National Board of Educational Evaluation)

1991: Name change of 'Yearbook of Education Statistics'

1992-1997: National Board of Educational Evaluation published the Yearbook.

1998: The education statistics project was transferred from the Ministry of Education to Korean Educational Development Institute.

2006: Designated as Statistics Korean NSO(National Statistical Office)-designated statistics (No. 33401)

2007: An integrated survey of higher education statistics started.

2008: Integral system of Education statistics and Information disclosure system started.

2011: Implementation of the second-half survey of teachers at higher educational institutions

2014: Advanced system of higher education statistics was introduced.

2015: Survey conducted using the advanced system of higher education statistics (First round)

- Survey subjects

A total of 1,600 institutions (includes affiliated schools of 430 tertiary education institutions).
-
This survey includes all remaining students who still enrolled in closed schools due to school merge or change of school system.
- Expected Outcomes

Improve the availability of data for timely policy-making by providing statistical reports on education.
